AEP Has Ended, But OEP Begins: Here’s What You Can Expect
The phones have been ringing off the hook for 53 days (probably longer) and your mailbox is full of Medicare promises and too-good-to-be-true offers. You counted down the days to December 7th, celebrating on the 8th like your favorite sports team has won the championship. AEP has ended! Um, well, uh, but…OEP (Open Enrollment Period) begins on January 1st and runs through March 31st. Here’s what you can expect.
OEP is the second most important time of the year for Medicare. I like to say they call it OEP because people say, “Oh, Oh…I messed up during AEP, so I better fix it during OEP.” All joking aside, during OEP, the phone will continue to ring, and your mailbox will continue to overflow. And here’s the rub; it will all sound SPECTACULAR, and you will have FOMO (fear of missing out). However, the reality is you can ignore all of that, as it is only designed to get you to pick up the phone so they can talk you out of your current plan.
You are missing nothing! And, if for some reason you are unsure, you can call your agent (me, Eddie Velez) to get answers. The reality is that if they can offer it, I or your current agent can get it for you (if it’s worth getting).
Realize that you’ve done your homework during AEP and have chosen the best plan for you for 2022. Now, if life happens (an illness, financial upheaval, you moved out of your county or state), then you may need a change. If that happens, CALL YOUR AGENT! He or she already knows you, your needs and unique circumstances; therefore, he or she is best qualified to find a solution that fits your needs, maximizes savings and ensures you receive all the benefits you qualify for.
So, while I can’t make the phone stop ringing nor the mail flowing, I can give you the assurance that you already have an agent, and you can depend on him or her. Because of that, you can ignore the phone and fill your recycle bin with all the kindling from Medicare mailers (unless you have a fireplace and need it to help light your logs…I’m just sayin’!).
Enjoy your Christmas and have a wonderful New Year!
